Override WordPress Registration Setting in SureDash

Introduction

SureDash lets you create a fully branded login and registration experience right inside your community portal. However, since SureDash works on top of WordPress, your site’s registration settings still apply.

By default, WordPress controls whether new users can register. If registration is turned off in WordPress > Settings > General, new visitors will see this message when trying to sign up:

“User registration is currently disabled. To allow new users to sign up, please enable the ‘Anyone can register’ option in your WordPress General Settings.”

To help you keep registration limited only to your SureDash portal — while keeping it disabled elsewhere on your site — we’ve added a simple but powerful option.

Why this setting exists

The Or” here represents a choice. It means you can allow user registration in either of the following ways:

  1. Enable “Anyone can register” in your WordPress General Settings — this allows users to register across your entire WordPress site.
  2. Enable “Override WordPress Registration Setting” in SureDash — this allows users to register only through your SureDash portal, even if WordPress registration is turned off.

This flexibility lets you decide whether to open registration site-wide or keep it limited to your SureDash community.

What this option does

When you enable Override WordPress Registration Setting, SureDash will:

  • Allow users to register and create accounts through your SureDash portal, even if WordPress registration is disabled.
  • Handle the registration securely within SureDash, ensuring only users coming through your portal can sign up.
  • Keep your main WordPress site protected from unwanted registrations.

In short, it’s an alternative way to enable registration — directly through SureDash — without touching your WordPress settings.

When to use this option

Turn this option on if:

  • You want users to sign up only through your SureDash portal.
  • You want to keep WordPress registration disabled for the rest of your site.
  • You manage a closed or private community and prefer tighter control over new registrations.

If you want open registration across your entire website, simply enable “Anyone can register” in WordPress > Settings > General instead.

How to enable

  1. Go to SureDash > Settings > Login / Registration.
  2. Find the option Override WordPress Registration Setting.
  3. Turn on the toggle.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Once enabled, SureDash will allow new user registrations through your portal even if the WordPress registration option is disabled.

Tip

If you’re unsure which method to use, think about where you want users to register:

  • For a public site, enable “Anyone can register” in WordPress.
  • For a portal-only setup, enable Override WordPress Registration Setting in SureDash.

Conclusion

The Override WordPress Registration Setting gives you the freedom to choose how and where new users register. It ensures that SureDash can handle community signups independently while keeping your WordPress registration preferences intact.

With this flexibility, you get complete control — allowing registration only through your portal or across your entire site, depending on what fits your community best.
