Targetted Discussions

Discussions in a portal have always helped members communicate and share ideas. However, in many cases, not every discussion is meant for the entire community. While discussions already existed in the portal, they were visible to everyone who had access to that space, which made it difficult to handle sensitive, internal, or members-only conversations.

The Private Discussion feature in SureDash builds on the existing discussion system by adding visibility control. Instead of creating separate spaces or workarounds, admins can now decide exactly who can see a discussion post, directly at the time of creation.

This means you can continue using the same discussion spaces, while limiting individual posts to selected users or specific access groups. The result is better privacy, clearer communication, and more focused conversations, all without changing how members normally interact with discussions.

Purpose and Use Cases

The Private Discussion feature is useful in situations where visibility needs to be controlled, such as:

  • Sharing announcements meant only for specific members
  • Enabling private conversations within discussion spaces
  • Restricting discussion visibility to SureMembers access groups
  • Running internal team discussions
  • Creating premium-only or members-only conversations

How It Works

When creating a discussion post, admins can mark the discussion as Private. Once enabled, visibility can be restricted in two ways:

  • Individual Users
Select specific portal members who should be able to view the discussion.
  • Access Groups (SureMembers)
Limit visibility to members who belong to a selected access group.

Only users who match the selected criteria will be able to see the discussion inside the portal.

User Flow (Frontend – Portal)

  1. Open a Discussion Space in the portal.
  2. Create a new discussion post.
  3. Select the target users or access groups.
  4. Publish the discussion.

After publishing, the discussion will only be visible to the selected users or group members. Other portal members will not see the post.

For the existing posts, you can manage them from the Feed Post Settings.

Conclusion

The Private Discussion feature gives you clear control over who can see and participate in discussions within your portal. It allows you to keep conversations private, relevant, and organized without adding complexity for admins or users.

Whether you are managing internal teams, premium communities, or targeted member groups, Private Discussions help you communicate with the right people while keeping the overall community experience clean and focused.
