How to Create Posts for Your Feed Space in SureDash

A Feed space shows posts from your community in one place, but it does not store posts by itself. The posts live in Discussion spaces, and the Feed collects and displays them. If you see “No store categories found” while creating a post, this article explains why and how to fix it.

Understanding Feed Spaces and Forum Categories

Here is how the pieces fit together:

  • Discussion space (Posts/Discussion): This is where posts are created and stored.
  • Forum category: SureDash creates one automatically for every Discussion space. It is named Forum: [Your Space Name]. You cannot create forum categories by hand.
  • Feed space: This shows posts from your Discussion spaces.

If your portal has no Discussion space yet, there are no forum categories. The Forum Category dropdown will then say “No items found.”

Note: The message “No store categories found” is an old label. “Store categories” here means Forum categories. It has nothing to do with a store. We are working on updating this wording.

Before You Begin

  • Make sure SureDash is installed and your portal is set up.

Steps

  1. Go to SureDash > Spaces.
  2. Click Add Space.
  3. Select Posts/Discussion as the space type.
  4. Enter a name for the space, for example “General Discussion”.
  5. Click Save.

General Discussions Space on Discussions Space of SureDash

  1. Open the settings of your new space.
  2. Turn on Allow Members to Post in the right sidebar.

Enable Allow Members to Post - Discussion Space type Sidebar settings

Tip: If you skip this setting, you and your members will not be able to create posts from the front end of your portal.

  1. Open the space on the front end of your portal.
  2. Create your post there.

If you create posts from the admin area instead [SureDash > Posts > + New Post], the Forum Category dropdown now shows “Forum: General Discussion”.

Navigate to the Posts page to directly add Posts and they will display the correct Forum Category

What You’ll See

Posts you publish in your Discussion space now appear in your Feed space and in your latest posts area. You can add more Discussion spaces at any time, and each one gets its own forum category.

For Developers (Optional)

Forum categories are terms in a custom taxonomy called community-forum. When a Posts/Discussion space is saved, SureDash adds a matching term to this taxonomy and links it to the space. The category dropdown reads its list from this taxonomy. When the taxonomy is empty, it shows the “No store categories found” message.

You now have a Discussion space set up, and your posts can show up in your Feed. Once this is in place, adding more spaces and posts is quick and easy.
