SureDash Events: Hosts, Location Types, and Add to Calendar

SureDash Events now comes with a set of new options that give you more control over how your events are created, displayed, and shared. You can now set an end time, assign a host, choose a location type, and let attendees add the event straight to their calendar. This article covers each of these additions, so you know exactly what is available and how to use it.

Available from SureDash v1.9.2 and SureDash Premium v1.8.4 and above.

Add to Calendar

Visitors can now save events directly to their preferred calendar app using the new Add to Calendar button on the event page.

Supported Calendars

  • Google Calendar
  • Outlook.com
  • Office 365
  • Downloadable .ics file (works with Apple Calendar, Outlook Desktop, and most standard calendar apps)

How It Works

The button appears as a dropdown in the event header. When a visitor clicks it, they can pick their preferred calendar. Depending on the choice, it either opens the calendar service with the event already filled in, or downloads an .ics file.

The .ics file is generated using the latest saved event data, so it always stays up to date. It includes the event title, start and end date and time, location, and joining link.

Enabling the Button

  1. Go to your Event Space settings.
  2. Turn on the Show Add to Calendar Button setting.

Note: The button only appears for events inside spaces where this setting is enabled.

Event End Date and End Time

Events now store a dedicated End Date and End Time alongside the start values. Previously, only a start time and duration were saved.

When creating or editing an event, you will now see separate fields for:

  • Start Date and Start Time
  • End Date and End Time

Separate Event Start Time and End Time under Event Settings for SureDash Events

The event page and event listings now use the real end time to show the correct event state: Upcoming, Ongoing, or Finished.

Smart Defaults

  • Start and end values are pre-filled with sensible defaults when you create a new event.
  • End time defaults to shortly after the start time.
  • If you move the start date forward past the current end date, the end date adjusts automatically to stay valid.

Note: Older events that were created with only a duration will have their end date and time calculated automatically. No action is needed from you. Nothing is lost.

Event Host

You can now assign a Host to any event.

  1. Open the event you want to edit.
  2. Use the Host selector to pick a host.
  3. Save the event.

Select the Event Host for SureDash Event Space under Event Settings

Once set, the event page will show a Hosted by section with the host’s details. This helps attendees quickly know who is running or presenting the event.

Event Location Type

Events now support three location types so attendees always know where to show up.

Location TypeWhat It Shows
Online MeetingJoining link
In PersonPhysical address or venue details
TBDA placeholder letting attendees know details are not finalized yet
  1. Open the event you want to edit.
  2. Select the appropriate Location Type.
  3. Fill in the relevant details (joining link or address).
  4. Save the event.

Now add Event Location Type in the Event Settings for SureDash Events Space type

The event page updates automatically based on the type you choose.

New Email Placeholders

Event notification emails now support two new placeholders for end time details.

PlaceholderWhat It Shows
{{event_end_date}}The event end date
{{event_end_time}}The event end time

You can use these in your email templates alongside the existing placeholders like event date, start time, timezone, joining link, and RSVP link. This lets you show a full date and time range in your emails instead of just a start time.

New Email Placeholders for Events space type

You now have a fuller set of tools to create clear, complete events on SureDash. Set a host, define the location, let attendees add it to their calendar, and make sure your emails show the full schedule.
